This Book is now finally in print again all these years after it was first published, because the first edition was too small and because most copies of it have gone lost or are worn to shreds.

Potentiële gezondheidsproblemen op grote hokken (text only available in dutch)

Article: NPO magazine 61 , june 6, 2008 number 23

Adeno Virus

Posted in Books & Articles on February 9th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

Since the middle of 1991 I became familiar with a new phenomenon of a terrible disease in mainly old birds. With mortality-rates up to 30% of the loft. The disease hits (strikes) very fast. In the morning there is nothing special to be seen, everything is normal. In the afternoon the pigeon(-’s) don’t want to eat or drink and look a little sick. They start to produce yellow (sometimes green) droppings. the next morning they are succumbating, while breathing heavily, within 24 hours. The rest looks okay, but a couple of days later new casualties may emerge. In the second half of 1991. I saw and heard of thousands of dead pigeons in the South-West of Holland. Unfortunately there is no specific vaccine available neither an effective treatment, as in most virus diseases.

Adeno Coli infections

Posted in Books & Articles on February 9th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

Adenovirus infections have been described worldwide in numerous avian species. The pathogenicity of the viruses is usually low and their precise role in clinical disease is often not clear. Most Adenoviruses are regarded as complicating organisms in diseases primarily induced by other agents or, as component of multi factorial problem. A few Adenoviruses, however, can be considered “exceptions” that are highly and primarily pahtogenic, for example: egg drop syndrome (EDS) virus, quail bronchitis virus, haemorrhagic enteritis virus and pigeon Adenoviruses. Pigeon Adenoviruses are responsible for two distinct disease entities, both causing serious harm to the pigeon population.
